New Age Kurling is a game based on curling but played on any smooth surface - no ice required. The "stones" run on 3 ball bearings and will work over any smooth hard surface.
These stones don't curl (bend) as they run up the ice but, apart from that, they require most of the skill and tactics from curling to be employed.
As well as being good fun in its own right, it also allows curling clubs to give a taster of the sport to potential members at the local community centre or hall. Eddleston Curling Club was kindly loaned some Kurling sets to help promote the sport of curling within the community. Three sessions were organised for the villages primary school children and an open day was run in the village hall to allow anyone interested to come along
and try Kurling and to find out more about curling from club members. You can find out more about New Age Kurling at www.whatsthebigidea.ltd.uk |
