The Club's History

Currently the clubs history is mainly held in the memories of the older members. Personal recollections or stories that they have heard over a post match drink. It is hoped that some of these will be added here in the future. In the meantime, here are a few pieces of the clubs history that have been extracted from the original minutes book.

The Lost Minutes

When I took over the role of club secretary I didn't realise the significance of some of the paperwork that was handed to me in the box that went with the job. For the first year I had no idea that one of the old minute books lying at the bottom of the box was the original book covering the formation of the club back in 1856. Admittedly it was a bit battered, but nothing out of the ordinary. Certainly not odd enough for me to open the book. In conversations around the club, I began to pick up the odd snippet about the existence of the original minutes. As secretary I was asked if I had them. "No I don't have them. I've never seen them". One night after a game I dug out this old book and opened it. There in a feint scratchy handwriting was the handwriting of one of my predecessors - the original secretary of the curling club.

I flicked through the pages seeing references to old curling ponds around the village that were long gone and that I never even knew existed. Simple club business seemed fascinating seen through the mists of 140 years. Here, for all club members to enjoy, are some extracts compiled by Robert Robertson.

Old Minutes 1

Extracts covering the formation of the club and its acceptance into the Royal Caledonian Curling Club.

Old Minutes 2

Extracts covering the first few years of the clubs existence.

Hopefully more will be added in the future.
